Many of us have experienced moments when we need someone to listen—someone who understands what we're going through. We might think about calling a friend, but will they provide the support we need? We might consider reaching out to a sister, but she may be busy with her new child. That’s where Heal TogetHER Peer Support comes in—peer support designed specifically for Black women to be seen, heard, and build authentic connections that promote mental well-being.

What is peer support? Heal TogetHER envisions peer support as a brief mutually restorative connection between two Black women in which one woman expresses distress or a need for emotional support. Heal TogetHER peer supporters create safe spaces for Black women to first be seen and heard and then supported to identify next steps and goals for their identified challenge or stressor.

How is this different from therapy?

Peer support is short-term and brief, whereas clinical therapy is long-term and ongoing. Peer support is provided by someone without a clinical license, but their knowledge lies within their lived experience as a primary tool to offer support.

Why Heal TogetHER Peer Support?

Black women take on so much in society. We are the sisters, moms, aunties, bosses who are often there for everyone else, but not many people are there for us. We provide so much care and support for others, but often don’t get the space to just be seen and heard, and we deserve the space.
